UNEMPLOYMENT: Northern Governors set up committee to tackle youth restiveness in the region

In a bit to provide gainful employment windows and engage youth in governance, the Northern State Governors have constituted a 30 Man committee to work out modalities on how to tackle problems affecting youth in the region.

The Committee came into existence on the 2nd November 2020 and its terms of reference include ways of prioritising different programs for youth development and their inclusion in governance architecture in the Northern region of the country.

It is also saddled with the responsibility of creating a robust interface with the civil society organizations within the region to facilitate engagement and dialogue on ways to address it’s challenges.

Members of the committee were also mandated to make other recommendations it deemed relevant in order to create ways to prioritize the teaming youths.

The Bauchi state government through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Empowerment, organized a youth town hall meeting held at Command guess inn.

While speaking at the youth town hall meeting, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Empowerment, Khalid Garba Barau said that it is paramount for the northern Nigeria to find ways that will tackle the challenges being faced by the youths in the region.

He added that, he was selected to represent Bauchi state in the committee, determination and his submissions were what engineered the achievement recorded so far by the state governors, emirs and chiefs.

He therefore appreciated the efforts of the 19 governors, emirs and chiefs for forming this committee, which he said will resolve the issues affecting the northern region ranging from insecurities, poverty, redundancy and nepotism.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Youth and Sport, Bauchi State Adamu Manu Soro said that this initiative would be supportive, encouraging and be given due consideration from the government angle.

A memorandum has been developed at the end of the town hall that will be submitted to the mother committee for proper considerations.
