The chairman house committee on health, Hon. Dr. Dawud Jedua has commended the Taraba State AIDS Control Agency, (TACA), for commitment to its mandate in providing HIV/AIDS services in the state.
This commendation was made by the house standing committee on health during the 2022 Budget defence by all Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state’s health sector.
Recall that few weeks ago, the Taraba state governor, Arc Darius Ishaku presented 2022 Appropriation Bill to the state legislature for consideration, which was proposed at 146.7 billion Naira, with a capital expenditure of 68.7 billion Naira, making 46% of the budget, and a recurrent expenditure of 78 billion Naira which represents 53% of the budget.
In a bid to sustain the quality healthcare delivery achieved by the Ishaku led administration in the year under review and advance on its provision of healthcare services in the next year’s plan where the sum N519, 420, 826.33 was expended in the health sector, the house committee on health didn’t only scrutinize the MDAs but thoroughly examined their achievements and challenges in the face of accountability for the sustenance of the ongoing qualitative health-care drive in the state.
During the budget defence, the Taraba state AIDS Control Agency (TACA) was exclusively given a clean bill of health by the house committee in terms accountability and service delivery, thereby noting the footprints of HIV/AIDS services in all nooks and crannies of the state.
Speaking, Hon Josiah Aji, one of the committee member expressed satisfaction over the activities of TACA in 2021, saying that investigation revealed that a sizeable part of the state was receiving HIV/AIDS services.
He said the drop in HIV/AIDS prevelence ratio and increase in sensitisation campaigns leading to attraction of partners to join in the fight against the scourge of HIV/AIDS in the state was a pointer to the fact that TACA was on a right course.
Earlier, the chairman of the house committee on health, Hon. Dr. Dawud Jedua said most of the MDAs in the health sector have justified their activities and urged them to work harder in order to ensure that the vision of the current administration in the state in ensuring that all Tarabans should have access to 24/7 quality healthcare services was achieved before 2023.
However, he urged the government to fasten the process of activating the state health contributory scheme, adding that such will not only go long way in subsidizing bills and expand the web of healthcare delivery but also provide a conducive atmosphere of health management.
