Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has lauded the Nigerian Army for its sustained initiative of soldiers interfacing with civilians harmoniously.

The Governor also commended the army and other security agencies for their efforts to reestablish peace in disturbed areas of the country.

Tambuwal handed down the commendations today at the 2022 edition of Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) convention, with the theme:”Capacity Building for Regimental Sergeant Majors in the Nigerian Army for Enhanced Regiment,” held at Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai Auditorium, Giginya Barracks, Sokoto.

According to him, the army’s drive to embark on training and retraining of its personnel would no doubt enhance discipline and regimentation, two essential ingredients useful for the successful conduct of soldiering.

He urged the army high command to use the opportunity to further expose its ranks to civilian ways of life, which are completely different from that of the Army.

Describing the convention as important, considering the strategic role of RSMs in the army chain of command, the Governor commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for his believe in the professionalization of the Nigerian Army, building its capacity as well as enhancing the welfare of its officers and men.

He noted that the convention apart from building bridge between commissioned and non-commissioned officers, would also instill discipline and inculcate the Army tradition in the soldiers.

In his address, theCOAS, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya appraised the performance of the RSMs as commendable after the first convention was conducted in the middle year of 2022 at Lagos.

According to him, the ongoing convention, aimed at consolidating the initial gain, would place the RSMs on a higher pedestal of operational effectiveness bearing in mind their roles as custodian of discipline, regimentation, ethics and tradition of the Nigerian Army.

In his remarks, the General Officer Commending 8 Division, Major General Uwem Bassey thanked the COAS for the improved welfare of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army.
