Solid Mineral Development Fund Pilots Distribution Of Field Accessories and Cash Support To Miners In Ngaski, Kebbi State

In line with the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative, PAGMI, of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Executive Secretary of Solid Minerals Development Fund, Hajiya Fatima Shinkafi on Monday 20th February 2023, led the distribution of working tools including vests, helmets, gloves and other protective gears, as well as 10,000 Naira cash support to 10,000 members of the mining communities in Kebbi State.

This was carried out on Monday, 20th of February 2023 in Birnin Yauri, Ngaski Local Government.

The First Lady of Kebbi State, Her Excellency. Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu who graced the occasion, performed the flag off ceremony.

The Executive Secretary explained that the move was in line with the effort to support miners and reduce the field hazards thereby improving their productivity.

She stated that more than 400 cooperatives with at least 20 members will benefit from the program.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals Minerals, Hon. Hayatu Ahmad Bawa appreciated the leadership of Solid Minerals Development Fund for the worthwhile partnership.

He announced that in partnership with Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative, PAGMI, the Ministry has supported miners with glasses and eye care.

Hon. Hayatu further announced that they have facilitated registration for miners and adequate security has been provided to help ensure hitch free operations.

Hon. Hayatu also announced that five boreholes are being constructed to further support miners in the area.

In a vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Miners Association, Abdullahi Aliyu thanked the initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari and Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for formalizing the activities of miners in the state and doing more to support them.

He stated that since PAGMI was introduced, they no longer live in fear of carrying out their activities.
