Stakeholders have advocated for the enactment of Law that will provide punishment for People who engaged themselves into Human Trafficking while looking for a Greener pasture.
This forms part of the discussion of Attendees at an Advocacy Meeting and Stakeholders engagement on Promoting the domestication of Laws Prohibiting Human Trafficking in Bauchi state.
The Forum was Convened by the Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development RISD in Collaboration with Plan International and the Canadian Government.
Speaking during a Roundtable Discussion The District Head of Bauchi Town Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba highlighted a disturbing trend where victims willingly pay travel agents, risking their lives for a better future.
However, when their plans fail, the agents are held accountable, while the victims are sent to rehabilitation centers, only to reengage in the illicit journey.
While Giving an overview on the activities of National Agency For the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP The Agency’s Information Officer, Bauchi state Office Malam Abdulrahman Abubakar explained that The Agency had recorded over 5000 Suspected Cases of Child Trafficking in the Country and over 7000 were Rescued.
He cited the Delay in the administration of Justice for Offenders Cultural and Religious Beliefs among the Bottleneck hindering the fight against the Menace.
Earlier in his Remarks The Executive Director Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development Mr. Sulaiman Dasika Henna explained that The Forum under The Umbrella of plan International as well as Canadian Government through ASPHIRE Project has Engaged Stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the delay in domestication of The Enacted Laws on Trafficking especially among Young Girls and Women.
He Commended the Stakeholders for the exhibited zeal to curtailed the Menace which According to him is denting the future of Million Girls and Women in Bauchi state.
The Forum was attended by Representative from Jama’atu Nasril Islam JNI, Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Traditional Rulers, Social Welfare Officers from Five Implementing LGAs as well as The Media.
