The Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the Bauchi State Government for awarding contract for the digitization of the state-owned media outfits.
In a communique signed by the Council Secretary Isah Garba Gadau and issued out after the council’s meeting with Media Executives in Bauchi, the union also called on the state government to expedite action in absorbing casual workers in the state media organisations to address the issue of mass retirement.
The State Governor had earlier approved the awarding of contract for the digitization of Bauchi State Television Authority, BATV and the Bauchi Radio Corporation, BRC as well as the construction of a befitting studio to NTA Bauchi.
The meeting urged the state government to ensure timely release of other charges to it’s media organisations to facilitate their operations.
“The forum also called on the state government to provide access roads leading to all media outfits in the state especially Albarka, Globe FM, Ray Power and NTA”.
The forum stressed the need for the state government to be prompt in issuing statement on its position on matters of the state to avoid speculations.
The communique advised media organisations to encourage their personnel to desist from engaging in partisan political discourse, especially on social media platforms as well as to exercise caution when lifting news item emanating from incredible online platforms.
The meeting urged the NUJ to be organising periodic meeting with the Police Public Relations Officer, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for a harmonious working relationship as well as to enhance security of media practitioners during political gathering, election coverage etc.
The forum appreciate the State Council of NUJ in making efforts to organise a special training for Radio and Television presenters and media practitioners to enable them discharge their duties in accordance with the ethics of the profession.
The meeting then commended the foresight of NUJ Bauchi Council for initiating the meeting, which is the first of its kind in the history of the union and urged them to maintain the sprit.
