The Chairman, Conference of Speakers of Northeast and Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman says the future of Nigeria largely depends on the quality of its youth, hence the need to give them the required mentorship to ensure the greater Nigeria in the future.

In his congratulatory message to commemorate Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary signed by his Spokesperson, Abdul Ahmad Burra, the Speaker, said 60 years of independence are not 60 days, therefore sees the period as “time for sober reflections on the future of our country and the position of our youth whose the future lies on, in nation building and career development so as to build more united and prosperous Nigeria”.

He lamented that youth are not given required mentorship on carrier and nation building, patriotism and inclusion in governance, but rather become subject of manipulation for political advantage, which he said will not augur well for the country whose largest part of its population are youth.

According to the Speaker, “our nationalists who fought for the independence of the Country and build the Country were youth who were mentored and inspired on patriotism, zeal and spirit of nationhood and peace building.

“A large part of our youth today don’t have the culture of respect, patriotism and spirit of nationhood and many are into drug abuse, thuggery and all social vices because they didn’t get the required mentorship to attain their potentials. This portends serious danger to the future of our Country.

“The only way we can ensure the labour of our heroes past didn’t go in vain is by creating another set of heroes in our younger generation by given them education and mentoring them to take part in nation building and unity of the country.

“Unless we do that, we didn’t give back what our Country did to us and posterity will never forgive us.

“Throughout my life, I have been helping the younger ones to grow and achieve their full potentials through supporting their education and skills acquisition.

“When I became Speaker, I appointed mostly youths as my aides so that they will learn the art of governance and contribute their quota to the development of our dear State and Nation. This is apart from many packages and initiatives on education, and youth and women empowerment I am delivering at my Ningi Central Constituency. Let’s all build on that.” He added.

Abubakar Suleiman, who said despite the challenges being faced by Nigeria since its independence in 1960, there is every reason to celebrate because the country stands united and has against all odds, attain certain level of development.

Speaker Abubakar further said that the kind of people oriented leadership Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad is giving to Bauchi State and the strong bond and synergism between the State House of Assembly and the Executive Arm, are clear indications of how the State is put on the path of rapid growth and development to the envy of all.

While hoping that the tempo will be maintained, he urged all Nigerians to take part in all processes of nation building and continue praying for the peace, unity and development of the Country.
