Kebbi will pave way for recommencement of academic activities in FGC Birnin Yauri – Gov Idris

Kebbi State Government has indicated willingness to provide the necessary security to the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, to pave way for the recommencement of academic activities in the school.

The college was deserted by teachers and students since bandits attacked the institution and abducted some students more than two years ago but all the captives were subsequently released.

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State gave the assurance that he would facilitate the admission of new students this academic session and also gave approval for the provision of land for the take-off of the Federal College of Education, Technical, approved for Yauri by the Federal Government.

The governor stated this when he received the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammadu Zayyanu Abdullahi who paid him solidarity visit at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, this Monday.

 

Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu who affirmed commitment to the restoration of studies in the school was also emphatic that his administration would not compromise on security matters nor allow the Federal Government College, Birnin-Yauri to die because of the attack by bandits.

 

Comrade, Dr. Nasir Idris pledged to ensure even appointment of public officers to reflect every section of Kebbi state, adding that seeming loophole of appointment unfavourable to Yauri Emirate would be rectified.

 

He commended the Emir and people of the Emirate for giving him the desired support in the last gubernatorial elections which consolidated his victory at the polls.

 

The governor thanked Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi for the visit, describing the monarch as a great leader who has provided excellent leadership of prosperity to his people.

 

Earlier, the Emir of Yauri, spoke about the importance for the adoption of appropriate security strategies to bring back confidence in the minds of parents, teachers and students to return to the school for normal academic pursuit.

 

At present, students of the College are using the premises of Government Day Secondary School Yauri for studies without new students being admitted into the FGC since the attack.

Earlier, the Emir of Yauri Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi told the governor that they were at the Government House to congratulate and affirm solidarity to him as well as show appreciation for his visit to the Emirate on Sunday to sympathize with victims of banditry.

The traditional ruler said such act of empathy by Dr. Nasir Idris has gladden the hearts of the people of the Emirate as a compassionate leader.

 

Dr. Muhammadu Zayyanu Abdullahi reminded the governor that the basic responsibility of the government was primarily to provide security for the protection of lives and property of the citizenry and uplifting the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.

 

The monarch spoke about the necessity for the provision of adequate security to the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri for the resumption of classes as well as the allocation of land for the take-off of the Federal College of Education, Technical, Yauri.

Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi thanked Governor Nasir Idris for appointing an indigene of Yauri, Yakubu Bala Tafidan Yauri as the Secretary to the Government, SSG, describing him as competent and capable civil servant.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Yauri Development Community, Alhaji Rufa’i Sani Adamu, affirmed the loyalty and support of the people of Yauri to Governor Nasir Idris.

Alhaji Rufa’i requested the state government to upgrade the College of Preliminary Studies, Yauri, to the capacity for the award of National Diploma to promote the acquisition of higher education among students in the Emirate.

Among personalities during the visit were the Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafidan Kabi, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barrister Attahiru Maccido, the Secretary to the Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafidan Yauri and the Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena while the Emir was accompanied to the Government House by District Heads and traditional title holders.
