Kebbi State Government is set to establish a Commission for Persons Living With Disability (PWDs).
This was announced by the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakuu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, on Wednesday at a Press briefing held at Government House, Birnin Kebbi shortly after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Gov. Nasir Idris.
He explained that the decision to establish the commission was reached at the State Executive Council meeting sent the Bill to the legislature .
” This came about as a result of a BBC Hausa programme, ” A Fada a Cika ‘ on the 1st of January where some persons with disability complained directly to the Governor.
” They complained that this decision was taken by many States, that it was a national matter approved by the National Assembly and most of the states have established the commission while Kebbi is one of the few states that have not done so,” he said.
According to him, the governor after hearing the complaint from some persons with disability during the programme directed the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State to quickly prepare the bill and bring it to the Council meeting for onward transmission to the State House of Assembly for approval.
The Commissioner reiterated that as soon as the House of Assembly ratify the bill , the governor would sign it into law.
Ahmed also announced that at the meeting, the Kebbi State Governor,Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu approved the holding of the annual Rigatta Cultural Festival of Yauri Emirate from 7th to 10th February, 2024.
” While submissions have been made for approval in view of time constraints, the governor has directed the immediate release of funds to the Emirate to start the preparations,” he averred.
The Commissioner further explained that earlier, the Emir of Yauri , Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi met the governor in the Council Chamber and requested for assistance to hold the Ragatta festival in Yauri, which the governor instantly approved.
He also disclosed that the Emir of Yauri has requested for the review of traditional rulers monthly allowances, which the governor has promised to look into.
This, he said, would enable them to perform their functions more patriotically and diligently.
The Hon. Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Nuradeen Fingila , the Special Adviser to Kebbi State Governor on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser to the Governor on New Media, Aliyu Bandado and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris were all present at the briefing.
