Kebbi sponsors Twenty Eight students to study medicine in Egypt

Twenty-eight students of Kebbi state origin sponsored by the government to study medicine in Egypt have departed Birnin Kebbi for Abuja enroute Cairo for their medical sojourn.

They were transported in a bus to Sokoto where they boarded flight to Abuja in company of officials of the State Scholarship Board led by the Executive Secretary, Alhaji Sanusi Garba.

Alhaji Sanusi Garba said the twenty eight students comprised of fourteen males and equal number of females in furtherance of deliberate effort by Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu to provide even opportunity to both gender to acquire quality education in all fields of knowledge, with emphasis on science courses

The Executive Secretary explained that a total of fifty-seven students were certified competent to travel abroad for medical studies, MBBS, of whom twenty eight received approval from the government to study in Egypt while the remaining twenty nine were awaiting approval for similar study of medicine in Russia.

Alhaji Sanusi Garba announced that presently, a total of one hundred and eighteen Kebbi state students were in their second year undergoing courses in paramedicals and engineering in India, and thanked Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for paying their tuition fees for the current session.

He indicated that the twenty eight students travelling to Egypt would spend six years for their medical degree.

Parents of the students represented by Alhaji Sa’idu Hussaini Kangiwa and Hajiya Hadiza Usman Faruq as well as the students represented by Hafsatu Sa’idu Kangiwa and Almustapha Abubakar Bena, expressed immense gratitude to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for placing premium on the educational development of Kebbi state.

They were also thankful to him for approving the sponsorship of students of the state origin both within and outside the country to excel in educational pursuit aimed at enhancing manpower development in the state.

The students are scheduled to depart Abuja this Wednesday, for Cairo, Egypt, to start their medical career.
