Kebbi Govt. distributes palliatives to Fakai, Sakaba IDPs

Kebbi State Government Monday distributed relief materials to victims of banditry attacks in Fakai and Sakaba Local Government Areas of the State.

Over three thousand IDPs were displaced by the bandits from their homes and forced to seek for shelter in Mahuta and nearby villages of the Local Government Areas.

In his sympathy remark, at the palace of Chief of Fakai Chiefdom in Mahuta, Alhaji Hudu Dan Malam, the State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, who represented Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, described the incident as very sad and unfortunate.

The Deputy Governor said the State Government was worried over the recurrent banditry attacks in the area resulting in the loss of precious lives, destruction of properties as well as the negative toll on farming activities.

He reassured the people of the area of the full determination of the State Government to restore peace in the affected areas by taking proactive security measures to safeguard lives and properties of the people.

Tafida added that the State Government would not relent in its efforts in providing relief assistance to the IDPs .

He averred: “The State Government under the leadership of Comrade, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu will leave no stone unturned in making sure that banditry comes to an end in Kebbi State.

“‘ The Governor will have loved to be here with you but because he was away on holy pilgrimage to Mecca, he asked me to represent him and offer his sympathy to you,” he said.

He warned that government would not take it lightly with informants or anybody caught conniving with the bandits to kidnap or kill innocent people.

”The community should also assist the security agencies with credible intelligence information to fish out the bandits in order to bring them to Justice ” he assured.

On the request by the Chief of Fakai , Alhaji Muhammadu Hudu Dan Malam for the State Government to repair the dam supplying the area with water, the deputy governor directed the Council Chairman of Fakai to forward their complaint in writing so that action would be taken on it.

Responding, the Chief of Fakai Chiefdom, Alhaji Muhammadu Hudu Dan Malam thanked the Governor and his delegation for the visit.

He expressed immense gratitude to the Kebbi State Government for its concern to the people of Fakai particularly in their period of distress.

The monarch told the deputy governor that the bandits had displaced many communities and had distrupted farming activities in the area.

While thanking the government for bringing relief assistance to the IDPs in the area, he fervently called on the state government to provide more security in the area in order to secure their lives.

Earlier, the Local Government Chairman of Fakai Hon. Umar Magaji and member of the State House of Assembly representing Fakai, Hon. Lawal Haruna expressed delight over the provision of the relief assistance by the state government.

Presentation of the relief assistance to the IDPs was flagged off by the deputy governor, assisted by the SSG, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafidan Yauri, the Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena, Chief of Staff Government House Birnin Kebbi, Barrister Attahiru Maccido and State APC Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Muhammad Kana Zuru.

The deputy governor, was accompanied on the trip by top government functionaries including, the SSG, Head of Service, Chief of Staff Government House, Permanent Secretaries, Special Advisers and politicians.
