The Kebbi State Government has refuted the allegation that the state has 15,979 registered homosexuals and 18,567 registered lesbians.

Governor Nasir Idris refuted the allegation while reacting to a sermon delivered by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Birnin Kebbi, Dr Nasir Kigo, at an Islamic gathering.

In the video of the lecture, posted on his Facebook, the permanent secretary alleged that at the first census, statistics showed that Sokoto was placed second in the whole federation with 9,978 registered members practising homosexuality.

“Sokoto also has 10,456 registered lesbians and they were third in the country.

“In Kebbi, 1,088 were fully registered members who practiced homosexuality as at the first census, while they had 7,986 registered lesbians.

“However, during the subsequent census, Kebbi has 15,979 registered homo members with 18,567 registered lesbians,” he said.

The governor, who frowned on the figures given by the permanent secretary, also said the statistics were baseless and lacked supportive evidence to prove the numbers.

“After thorough investigation, the government discovered that it was false information, therefore, we are calling on the general public to disregard this piece of information, because it lacked merit,” he said.

The governor announced that the government would take action against the permanent secretary, being the formulator of the said baseless figures.
