Kebbi State Government has donated one hundred million naira to Hisbah group to enhance its operations and services to ensure societal wellbeing.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu announced the donation this Sunday at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Birnin Kebbi at the twentieth anniversary of establishment of Hisbah and fund raising of one hundred and twenty million naira for its activities.
The governor explained that the amount represented donation from the State Government, the State House of Assembly, and Chairmen of the twenty-one Local Government Councils in the state.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu acknowledged the immense contribution of Hisbah to instilling moral values into the citizenry, as well as partaking in social welfare services and fighting societal ills, such as alcohol consumption and prostitution.
Furthermore, the group has been in the forefront in preventing crime and criminality in the society
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu made it clear that in view of its proactive approach to the prevention of social vices and crime, the incumbent administration has co-opted Hisbah into the security machinery of the state.
He commended the previous government which established Hisbah and praised members of the group for their perseverance in upholding the tenets and objectives of cleansing the society.
In a remark, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Babale Umar Yauri, expressed satisfaction about the achievements recorded by Hisbah since its creation twenty years ago.
The SSG listed closure of beer parlours, abodes of prostitutes, rescuing abandoned children and newly born babies as well as other activities of charity as hallmark of the operations of Hisbah in the State .
He thanked Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for sustaining financial support to the group and shouldering the cost of organizing the twentieth anniversary of Hisbah held this Sunday.
The Guest Speaker, the Acting Grand Qadi of Kebbi state, Dr. Muhammad Tukur Sani Argungu, described the celebration of achievements of Hisbah in the twenty years of its existence as a moment of pride.
Dr. Tukur Sani said Hisbah has made significant contribution to sanitizing the society and removing things inimical to the health and wellbeing of the people.
Quoting from the Glorious Qur’an and the Sayings (Hadith) of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the Acting Grand Qadi, equated the activities of Hisbah to the commandment of Allah and the Practice of the Prophet (SAW), that made it incumbent on the section of the society to inspire people to exhibit good conduct and avoid disdainful acts.
Dr. Tukur Sani thanked Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for his fatherly care to orphans in the state.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman, Kebbi State Ulama Council, Sheikh AbdURRahman Isah Jega, premised his remark on Islam Holy Scripture and Practice of the Noble Prophet (SAW), admonishing Muslims to live in absolute obedience to their religious instructions.
Also drawing inspirations from the writings of the renown Islamic cleric, Sheikh AbdULLahi Bn Fodio, the Ulama Council Chairman, emphasized the necessity on people to provide financial and material assistance to Hisbah in view of the importance of its functions in ridding the society of social ills.
The Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar represented by the Walin Gwandu, Sheikh Mukhtar AbdULLahi reaffirmed the commitment of Gwandu Emirate Council to the provision of support and cooperation to Hisbah in the task of societal reformation in consonance with Islamic religious values.
The Emir advised the populace to give desired support to Hisbah in its duty to cleanse the society of sinful acts and social vices.
The Chairman of the Occasion, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami SAN, was represented by the immediate past Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abubakar Chika Ladan.
The Minister acknowledged the performance of Hisbah in Kebbi State since its creation twenty years ago, saying that operations of the Islamic group has reduced acts of alcoholism and prostitution in the state.
He however spoke about the importance for Hisbah to focus attention on consumption of other sources of intoxicants among youths, warning that if not nipped in the bud, the trend has the tendency to breed a future society in torment.
The Minister announced a donation of Five Million Naira to Hisbah while the State APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu donated five hundred thousand naira.
The Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena and Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, Alhaji Aminu S/Fada were among the important personalities at the event.
