Katsina Government intensifies effort to boost water supply

The Katsina State Government has assured that the problem of inadequate water supply within the state Capital and environs will be history from the middle of this year.

The State Deputy Governor Alhaji Mannir Yakubu FNIQS, gave the assurance when he led members of the State Bureau of Public Procurement in an inspection of some water facilities in Katsina metropolis and the Ajiwa water works.

Places visited by the team are Kofar Kaura booster station, Rafindadi domestic water tank and the concrete elevated reservoir tank situated along Katsina Dutsinma road.

Other places visited include industrial water tank located at Katsina Steel Rolling Mills roundabout and the Ajiwa Water Works at Ajiwa town.

At Kofar Kaura booster station, the Deputy Governor and other members inspected a 800kva generating set which was procured and installed at the cost of N68,403,203.55.

While briefing the Deputy Governor on the procurement and installation of water pumps and other facilities at the booster station and reservoirs, the Commissioner for water resources Alh Musa Adamu Funtua said the project was initially awarded at the cost N559,003,753.95k but was later reviewed to N636,597,415 due to the rising cost of the equipment.

At Ajiwa water works, Alh Musa Adamu Funtua revealed that the procurement and installation of first and second 2100kva generators and construction of generator houses was awarded at the initial cost of N283,596,720.73 but was also reviewed to N343,896,498.98.

Speaking at the end of the inspection visit, the State Deputy Governor who is also Chairman of the Katsina State Bureau of Public Procurement said the Federal Government had already spent about 12 billion Naira in the completion of the Zobe water project.

He further explained that the current water projects in the state are meant to, amongst others, integrate the Zobe water source into the existing water supply system for the benefit of the people.

While expressing satisfaction on the quality of work being carried out, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu charged the contractor to ensure that the installation all outstanding aspects of the contract, especially the installation of pumping machines at Rafindadi and the one along Dutsinma road are completed as scheduled.

The contracting firm of the project M/S CONTINENTAL COMPUTERS RESOURCE AND INVESTMENT LIMITED represented by it’s Chairman Alhaji Salisu Mamman, sought for more support from the state government towards the timely delivery of the project, while assuring that the project well be completed within the stipulated time.

Alhaji Salisu Mamman therefore urged people in the state to acknowledge and appreciate the multi-million Naira project being executed by the Masari led administration to improve their wellbeing.
