Jigawa State Government has launched the distribution of two point five million seedlings.
The State Governor Abubakar Badaru At the distribution exercise in Andaza, Kiyawa local government area, said planting trees would ensure a cleaner environment.
He said the tree’s would cover 4KM shelter belt with 1KM distance each, in Babura, Birniwa, Suletankarkar and Maigatari local government areas respectively.
Badaru who said that the 4 LGA’s are the most effected by desertification in the state, explained that present administration in collaboration with Great Green Wall was establishing shelter belts, wood lots and orchards across frontline areas of the state.
The state commissioner for environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Chai said his ministry produced the seedlings during COVID-19 lockdown.
He said the seedlings distributed comprised 800,00 Eucalyptus, 800,000 Neem trees, 545,000 Moringa and 100,000 Keshia plants.
Reports gathered that the seedlings were allocated to various NGO’s in the state by Governor Badaru through their representatives.
