Governor Bala distributes BESDA/UBEC instructional materials

Bauchi state Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed today performed the official distribution of materials to BESDA learning centres/UBEC Instructional materials.

Governor Bala also performed the commissioning of the 2019 UBEC/SUBEB Intervntion Project at Shadawanka Pri School Army Barracks.

At the event, Governor Bala said his administration at the take-off of BESDA programme in the state, provided teaching and learning materials worth over 53 million naira and distributed to the beneficiary Local Government Education Authorities.

He said the Better Education Service Delivery for All BESDA programmes which aimed is reducing the level of illiteracy through tracking and mopping of out of school children and returning them to class rooms covers nine Local Government Areas of Bauchi, Ganjuwa, Alkaleri, Jamaare, Gamawa, Misau, Zaki, Katagum and Itas Gadau.

The Governor said accordingly, a total of 94,000 00SC were enrolled into the 940 learning centres identified while 2168 facilitators were temporarily employed and posted to the centres to teach in line with the programmes guidelines.

Governor Bala said his administration had expanded over eight billion naira for implementation of projects in education which involved construction and renovation of 864 blocks of classrooms which translated into 2413 classes across the twenty Local Government Areas of the state.

He said as a reward for the outstanding performance of the Bauchi state in the 2017/2018 and 2019 intervention projects, UBEC Abuja has forwarded the state’s basic education board the state’s 2020 and 2021 Federal statutory allocation of UBE matching grant to the tune of 1,661,720,779.60.

He said his administration in collaboration with the North East Development Commission in collaboration with the State Government, has constructed 20 mega blocks of store building, one in each of the twenty Local Government Areas, consisting of six classrooms, motorized boreholes and hand pumps.

The Governor expressed his Government’s profound appreciation to the Executive Secretary of UBEC and his management for a mutually rewarding relationship whose footprints will remain in the chronicle of educational development in Bauchi state.

Governor Bala thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Universal Basic Education Commission for supporting Bauchi state government to acess educational interventions for better education delivery to provide solutions to educational challenges.

Also speaking, the Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Bala Zakari said the event is very auspicious as it confirms the determination and commitment of UBEC to ensuring greater achievement of eradication/reduction of number of out of school children.

Dr Bala Zakari said it is one strategy that UBEC has deliberately adopted with a view to firming up its commitment to the education for All across the country.

Other speakers at the occasion including His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, Chairman House Committee on Education, Commissioner of Education, Dr Aliyu Tilde, SUBEB Executive Chairman, Surumbai Dahiru Bauchi all appreciated the commitment of Governor Bala in ensuring effective teaching and learning in schools.
