Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has lauded the effort of the Nigerian military in combating banditry in the State, particularly in the southern part.

Governor Nasir Idris praised the resilience and strong determination of the military, which facilitated the quick return of peace to the previously troubled southern areas, where banditry, destruction of farmlands, and loss of lives were rampant.

The Governor made this commendation during a courtesy visit by the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, and Commander Joint Task Force, NorthWest Operation Hadarin Daji, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, on Wednesday.

He stated, “The Military has made us proud. I appreciate the officers and men of the army.”

Governor Idris recalled that on assumption of office, farmers had abandoned their farms, and people had deserted their towns and villages due to insecurity.

“We sat with the security agencies and examined the situation. With the doggedness of the military and other security agencies, we were able to restore peace not only in the southern part but in Kebbi as a whole,”he asserted.

He expressed happiness that peace has returned to the troubled areas in the state, with farmers also returning to their farms.”Last year, we had a very good bumper harvest, so even this year, we will assist our security to maintain peace in those areas,” he said.

The Governor, while praising the military’s efforts, also restated the readiness of the Kebbi State Government under his leadership to continue supporting the military in its fight against banditry.

Earlier, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose stated that he was at the Government House to formally introduce himself and appreciate the Governor’s support to the military.

The GOC thanked the Governor for providing patrol vehicles to the military, settling medical bills of casualties, and other necessary support to the soldiers.

He also expressed delight with the Governor’s developmental projects in the state.
