FLOOD: Yobe Deputy Governor visits Gashiua to assess damage, commiserates with affected communities

The Deputy Governor of Yobe state Idi Barde Gubana on Sunday led a high powered delegation to Gashua to commiserate with the communities affected by the recent flood disaster in Gashua, Usur, Gasma, Bukarti and Gadan Dinya all in Bade and Karasuwa Local Government areas respectively.

The delegation upon arrival was recieved by the Chairmen of Karasuwa and Bade local governments, Hon. Sanda Kara Bade and Hon Gana Lawan as well as Executive Secretary SEMA and other stakeholders.

In his remarks during the visit the Deputy Governor, conveyed Governor Buni’s sympathy over the lost of farmlands, Houses and damages caused by the flood in the affected areas.

He commiserated with the hundreds of victims whose houses were submerged by the devastating floods and residents abandoned their Houses for fear of their lives. He expressed deep symphaty over the disaster and directed SEMA to relocate the victims from Usur and Gasma to the newly constructed Housing estate in Jaji Maji.

According to him the essence of the visit is primarily to sympathetize with the victims on the natural disaster that engulfed their communities as well as assess the level of the damage so as to bring succour to the victims

He said already Government directed Rescue team from state emergency management agency SEMA to visit all the affected areas with a view to provide an emergency assistance and recommendations for immediate action.

According to the SEMA report available indicates that in Bade west 28 communities with over 2,135 households were affected by the flood, while in Gashua town about 2,500 households were also affected mostly from Katuzu, Abujan Amare, Lawan Musa, Lawan Fannami and Sarkin Hausawa Ward.

While at the Palace of Emir of Bade, the Deputy Governor, urged the citizens to intensify prayers to seek for divine intervention against flooding in the state and other parts of the country, “prayer is the only way out for every calamity” he said.

The Emir of Bade and Deputy chairman Yobe state Council of traditional rulers, Alh ABubakar Umar Suleman, thanked the state Governor for his concern to send a high powered delegation led by the state Deputy Governor to share the pain with his people on this calamity.

The Emir said his subjects would continue to offer prayer for Allah to salvage the problem and give them the formidable courage to bear the losses.

Some relief materials were provided to be distributed to the victims in all the affected areas.

The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the speaker Yobe state Hon of assembly Rt Hon Ahmad Lawan Mirwa, State party chairman, Hon Mohammed Gadaka, Secretary to The state government,Alh Baba Malan Wali mni, Commissioner Ministry of Budget and economic planning Alh Mohammad Garba Gagiyo, party treasurer Hon Saidu Baba, special adviser on Youths sports and social development, Hon Musa Gamcho Tela.among others
