Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has raised concerns about the alarming rate of out-of-school children in the Northern region, warning that it provides fertile ground for recruiting a new generation of Boko Haram insurgents.
Speaking at the commissioning of infrastructure projects in Bauchi State, Obasanjo emphasized the urgent need for collective action to address this threat.
According to him The Northern region’s high number of out-of-school children creates a vast pool of potential recruits for insurgent groups, undermining national security and perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality.
Obasanjo called for a collaborative effort, stressing that “all hands must be on deck” to tackle this challenge.
Meanwhile, Obasanjo shared his personal struggle with hearing loss, revealing he was 25% deaf.
This experience prompted him to establish the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, providing ear treatments and hearing aids to thousands of Nigerians.
He donated hearing aids to 2,000 individuals and announced plans to distribute aids to over 10,000 indigent people in the Northeast.
