The Northern Nigeria Youth led Social Enterprise Company, popularly known as eTrash2Cash is gradually expanding its operations in the North Western part of the country, in a bid to create zero waste and a healthy society.

With the launch of its new project Faith for Climate Change Action (#F4CCA) in Kebbi State, the group seeks collaboration with the state government, religious institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders in the state to ensure smooth implementation of the project.

Speaking during an advocacy visit to the State Ministry of Environment in Birnin Kebbi, the Project Lead Mohammed Chiroma Hassan, disclosed that the new program was aimed at addressing various climate change issues, thereby creating sustainable societies that are not only zero environmental waste, but also healthy, educated and well informed.

He added that the project will equally create job opportunities for the teeming youth in the state, as they will engage themselves positively and be financially stable through the viable exchange of plastic waste for financial gain.

“Developing countries in the world grappling with challenges in climate change have gone far in proper waste management and recycling, which has contributed immensely to their economic growth and development. Nigeria will also not be left behind “.

Mr. Chiroma therefore enjoined members of the communities in the state to make best use of the opportunity by scouting through all nooks and crannies to get plastic waste materials out in order to have a healthy and safe environment, and at the same time get a means of livelihood.

Receiving the Members of the organization in his office, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Environment Alhaji Musa Muhammad Tungulawa, described the project as both timely and important, especially now that activities that would boost the climate condition of the region are highly needed.

The commissioner who was represented by the acting Permanent Secretary of the ministry Mohammed Nasiru Musa, reiterated the readiness of the ministry to partner with the group for the attainment of the project goal and objectives.

“We are excited to see young people venturing into initiatives of this nature. With this, you are not only helping the environment, but creating job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth in the state “.

According to him, the rapidly growing population contributes to huge waste circulation in the environment, and if remains unchecked, it would eventually affect agricultural activities. Hence, the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders in order to mitigate the situation.

He stressed that evacuating plastic waste from the environment will also help in reducing the harmful effects of such materials on the soil, which will equally result in boosting agricultural production.

The project which will be implemented in different communities of the metropolitan areas of the state, would engage religious institutions to serve as collection centers, while also leveraging on their influential voices for efficient and smooth implementation of the activities.
