The leadership of Jama’atul Izalatul bid’ah waiqamatus Sunna Jos National Headquarters has kicked against the hike of electricity tariff in the country.

The vice Chairman JIBWIS council of Ulamas Sheikh Saidu Hassan Jingir made this clear at the JIBWIS Juma’at Mosque Kasuwar shanu Bauchi, during the closing of 2024 Ramadan Tafsir.

Sheikh Saidu Hassan Jingir Said the new energy tariff would worsen inflation and stifle small and medium enterprises, thereby adding more salt to the already economic hardship.

He explained that people are still battling to live with the persistent increase of petroleum price courtesy of subsidy removal by the Federal government which according to him has already deepens poverty among citizens.

Sheikh Jingir called on the Federal Government to immediately reconsider what he referred to as ill-conceived decision and consider the dire economic situation faced by the majority of Nigerians.

Recalled that At a press briefing in Abuja recently, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, insisted that the Federal Government would continue with the new tariff regime for Band A consumers despite calls for its reversal.

He said this was because the government could no longer continue paying humongous sums as power subsidy, stressing that subsidy on electricity for 2024 would cost the government about N2.9tn.
