Constitution review: Gov Bala urges reps to consider northeast’s demands

In a bid to ensure justice and equity for the Northeast region, the Bauchi state Governor, Senator Bala Muhammad Abdulkadir has called on the House of Representatives to consider the region’s demands in the ongoing constitution review hearing.

The Governor, was speaking when he received the House of Representative Committee for Zonal Public Hearing on the 1999 Constitution Review on a courtesy visit at the government house, Bauchi.

Bala Muhammad, who expressed worry over what he described as injustice to the region said, Bauchi is the third biggest city in the north after Kano and Kaduna due to the imflux of migrants from neighboring states as a result of insecurity.

He also called on the committee to look into the agitation for the creation of Katagum state as well as local governments, which according to him will bring more developments to the state.

The Governor, emphasized the need to give roles to traditional rulers in the Constitution by allocating salary and pension to them, with a view to giving the opportunity to discharge their responsibies effectively.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman, house sub committee on the 1999 constitution review, Aminu Sulaiman said the Committee was saddled with the responsibility to listen to various complain concerning the region.

He commended the state Governor for his commitment in executing developmental projects and initiating various empowerment programs.
