CLIMATE CHANGE: Foundation Trains Zaria Communities On Ways To Reduce Emission By Planting Of Trees

A non governmental organization, Raising Awareness on Net Zero in Nigeria, RANTZ-Nigeria has engaged communities of Sabon gari Zaria in kaduna state on consultation initiative to reduce emission and mitigate climate change among humanity.

The One day Community consultation was to build capacity and enhance adequate knowledge on Emission reduction (Net-Zero) for prompt action.

Prince Israel Oreka, Chief Executive Officer, Connected Advocacy said the interraction session was part of efforts to raise awareness and provide feedback to policy makers on mainstreaming community concern into long term mitigation measures in the country.

He said the project was implemented by
Center for 21st Century Issues, Connected Advocacy (CA) and International Centre for Climate Change Initiative (ICCDI), as supported by European Climate Foundation (ECF).

Prince Oreka said Community members will be also be guided on ways to contribute towards reducing climate change and emission by planting of trees to avoid deforestation, recycling of waste and strategic farming initiative.

Mallam Ibrahim Mohammed Shamsuddeen, Zonal Coordinator, North-west, Connected Advocacy said the community were sensitized on ways to contribute their quota in emission without necessarily waiting for government.

He noted that the recent removal of fuel subsidy will go along Way in reducing emission in the country.

Shamsuddeen tasked Community leaders to step down the trainng to the grassroot for a clean and healthy environment.

Some participants interviewed expressed readiness to roll out the messages received at the trainng to their respected communities.

Participants were drawn from the community, Media and Civil society organizations.
