Carry Your Councillors, Directors Along, Bauchi Assembly Tasked Local Governments Chairmen

Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has tasked Chairmen of Local Government Caretaker Committees in the State to carry councillors, directors and other administrative officers along in the administration of their respective local government councils.

The Committee noted that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad entrusted the chairmen alongside the councillors therefore there is the need for them to work together in harmony and unity and always seek advice from directors and other administrative officers for efficient service delivery.

Chairman of the Committee Hon. Bala Abdullahi Dan made the remarks when he led his colleagues to an oversight visit to Darazo, Misau and Dambam Local Government Councils on Tuesday.

He explained that the purpose of their visit is to familiarize and create collaboration and good working relationship between the Committee and the Councils so as to deliver on their separate constitutional mandates.

According to him, the Committee will soon embark on another oversight function across the local governments to assess projects and programmes initiated by the Executive Governor of the State His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad and those initiated by the Councils so as to ensure that people are not shortchanged and all projects are going as appropriated by the Assembly.

He however urged the Chairmen not see their oversight function as witch-hunt but a discharge of constitutional responsibility in order to ensure maximum delivery of dividends of democracy especially at the grassroot.

Hon. Bala Abdullahi Dan who is the member representing Duguri/Gwana Constituency, expressed satisfaction on the performance of the Councils in touching the lives of people at the grassroot Level.

In their separate remarks, the Chairmen Caretaker Committees of Darazo, Misau and Dambam Local Governments; Alhaji Sama’ila Ya’u Sade, Alhaji Salisu Hussaini Hardawa and Alhaji Muhammad Ahmed Dambam said that the visit is timely because it will strengthen them to deliver on their primary responsibility of having an open door policy towards addressing challenges at the local levels.

They also expressed their readiness to work with State’s legislative arm in order to deliver on the desired objectives of their appointment and the establishment of local government areas.

Meanwhile the Committee has paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Misau His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmad Sulaiman in his Palace to seek for his blessings and advice towards discharging their responsibility and improving chieftaincy affairs in the State.
