In a bid to boost farming activities and ensure food security, the Bauchi State Government has concluded arrangements to distribute 42,000 sacks of fertilizer to farmers across the state. The fertilizer, donated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, will be distributed free to farmers in all 20 local government areas.
The Emir of Jama’are, Alhaji Nuhu Ahmed Wabi, Chairman of the distribution committee, disclosed this after a meeting in Bauchi. He explained that the committee would take the fertilizer to farmers in all polling units, and that all communities, labor unions, religious organizations, women groups, youth groups, and other bodies would benefit from the gesture.
The Emir commended Governor Bala Mohammed and the federal government for their support, stating that the fertilizer would go a long way in supporting farmers at the grassroots. He appealed to beneficiaries to make the best use of the fertilizer to raise agricultural production and ensure food security in the state.
The distribution committee, inaugurated by the state government, was tasked with designing criteria for selecting genuine farmers and farmers’ associations, ensuring fair distribution, and submitting a report within three weeks. Emir Nuhu promised to ensure justice and equity in the distribution process.
This gesture is expected to have a significant impact on farming activities in Bauchi State, which is blessed with abundant land, human, and natural resources. By providing farmers with the necessary inputs, the state government aims to increase agricultural production and ensure food security.
