The Director-General of the Bauchi State Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs. Lydia John Shehu Gar, has urged husbands to serve as beacons of hope for their wives in all aspects of development.
She made this call during the graduation ceremony of 298 women in Gwaram Community, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The women underwent a six-month training program organized by Women For Women International through Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development.
The program focused on social empowerment, numeracy, health, and vocational skills. Mrs. Gar commended the organizers for their efforts in empowering women in the state.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mrs. Gar stated that the Bauchi State Government, through the office of SDGs, is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
She emphasized the importance of husbands supporting their wives in economic activities, noting that empowering women is crucial in addressing issues such as gender-based violence.
Mrs. Gar also commended Rescue Initiative and Women For Women International for their contributions to women’s empowerment in the state. She urged the authorities in Alkaleri Local Government to establish a market for women in the area to complement the efforts of stakeholders.
In a remark, the Country Director of Women For Women International, represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Naomi Ngokwat, charged the benefiting women to utilize their newfound skills to improve their economic status. She encouraged them to become role models in their communities, inspiring other women to seek empowerment.
The Executive Director of Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development, Mr. Sulaiman Dasika Henna, explained that another set of 300 women had earlier undergone training, and a similar project is currently underway in some local government areas of Bauchi State.
The graduation ceremony marked a significant milestone in the empowerment of women in Bauchi State. The program has equipped the women with essential skills to improve their economic status and contribute to the development of their communities.
