The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria Abubakar Y Suleiman was conferred with a PhD (honoris causa) in Social Justice and Peace Advocacy by the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution United Nations-Polac in affiliation with University College of Christian Mission.
The United Nations-Polac Foundation has also appointed the Speaker as International Peace Advocate.
Conferring the appointment and the PhD on the Speaker, during the commemoration of International Day of Peace 2021 held at Airport Hotel, Ikeja Lagos on Tuesday, the Director of the Foundation Professor Halo B Eton said that the Speaker is an individual of proven integrity who exhibit the ideals of living for the sake of others and commit himself to promoting universal moral values, strong family life, society harmony, interreligious and inter-ethnic cooperation and the culture of peace.
While congratulating the Speaker, the Director explained that the appointment and the honorary doctorate degree are to acknowledge the Speaker’s special qualities in order to encourage him to be role model in community service and peace making.
In his remarks, the Speaker expressed his appreciation to the Foundation for the recognition which he said has motivated him to continue doing more in order to ensure peace reign all over the world.
Speaker Abubakar who said peace is the backbone of the development of every society, assured the Foundation of his commitment and that of his colleagues toward peace building among diverse religious and ethnic groups in the Country.
