Bauchi State Government on Friday inaugurated a 15 member high powered committee to clarify the fate of its houses allocated under the 6th phase owner-occupier housing scheme in BSADP quarters, GRA Misau, Azare and other places across the state.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the inauguration, the State Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Honorable Hamisu Muazu Shira said the committee is to submit its report within 3 weeks to the State Executive Council for ratification.

The Commissioner who is the Chairman of the Committee, charged members to discharge their assigned responsibilities without fear or favour in order to ensure justice in the entire process.

Honorable Hamisu Shira recalled that, on the inception of the present administration, it has revoked all such spontaneous allocations including the 6th phase of the owner occupier scheme.

He said however being a responsive government that hears the yearnings and aspirations of its people, particularly the civil servants and out of his magnanimity, Governor Bala Mohammed approved the constitution of the committee in order to review the whole exercise and make appropriate recommendations to the government.

“You may recall that, the immediate past administration had approved the implementation of the 6th phase of the owner-occupier scheme in the state which comprised BSADP quarters, GRA Misau, Azare and other places.

Accordingly the houses were allocated to the occupants mostly comprising civil servants in the state illegally and therefore you may also be reminded that when the present administration came in 2019, it revoked all such spontaneous allocations including the 6th phase of the owner occupier scheme, but His Excellency, constituted this committee to review the entire process so as to verify the matter.

According to him, terms of reference of the committee include among others, to visit each allocated house and boys quarters, ascertain the true allotees of the house and the present occupants of the Houses, confirm the status of payment made by the allotess and to make recommendations on way forward.

The Housing and Environment Commissioner tasked members of the committee whom he said their selection was done based on merit to use their wealth of knowledge and experience in the discharge of their assigned responsibilities to achieve the desired objectives.

“With this inauguration,
I urge you to swing into action and ensure justice is done to all, our committee will also verify those that were not able to meet with all the commitments because some of the houses were allocated wrongly.”
