The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi has dismissed two of its staff, Adeboye Michael Sunday and Abubakar Musa Baba for raping students of the institution.

The Council of the Polytechnic in the same vein, expelled 16 of its students for what it described as falsification of their ordinary diploma results to gain admission into the institution, and also expelled 14 students for examination misconduct.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Arc. Sanusi Waziri Gumau announced the dismissal and the expelling of the students shortly after the conclusion of the Governing council’s 98th regular meeting in Bauchi weekend.

He explained that the issue of raping by the institution’s two staff came up on the 4th of August this year, upon which they were served with queries and subsequently a committee set up to further investigate the matter.

Arc. Sanusi Gumau however expressed dismay that the media severally mentioned the case of Abubakar Musa Baba of the General Studies department, while remaining silence on the case of Adeboye Michael Sunday from the Nutrition and Dietetics department.

“But what surprised me most it is only the name of Abubakar Musa Baba that has been mentioned, the other one ‘Adeboye Michael Sunday’ was silence about him. I wouldn’t know what was the reason, what was the rationale behind it”.

He revealed that both the two students who were raped have military background, one her father is a military officer, while the other raped has her sister on the ranking of the military.

According to the rector, the committee was saddled with the responsibility of investigating the issues felt on the extent rules/laws of the institution which are applicable to all federal polytechnics in the country.
