The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi has matriculated a total number of 6,268 students for the 2022/2023 academic session.
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Arc. Sanusi Waziru Gumau has tasked the institution’s 2022 matriculating students to jealously guard admission and study hard in order not to waste time and their parents’ hard earned resources.
Architect Sanusi Gumau therefore described the occasion as a day for solicitude, reflection and thanksgiving for the opportunity God almighty has provided them for gaining admission into the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.
Gumau disclosed Wednesday that the Polytechnic received a number of 9,372 applications for the 2022/2023 academic session, and 8,015 were admitted while 6,268 were registered as bonafide students of the institution, with 1, 770 for HND and 4, 498 for National Diploma courses.
Gumau who was represented by his deputy Dr Dallahatu Saidu Abubakar, told the matriculating students, “It also a happy day for you because as students here, you will start to have a place for self-discovery, in not just your area of study, but also in skills acquisition, through our well-prepared and motivated Entrepreneurial Development Centre in conjunction with the various academic departments”.
According to the rector, it is also a happy day for the new students because they are being matriculated, marking the beginning of their journey as bonafide students of the prestigious citadel of learning with all rights and privileges.
While giving his last matriculation address as the 6th Rector, with his tenure expiring in the next coming weeks, the rector highlighted some achievement of the polytechnic management under his watch to provide an atmosphere favourable to teaching and learning.
He explained that during his five and half years of service to humanity, the polytechnic was able to increase the number of courses and programmes being run, enumerating the additional ones to included National Diploma Fisheries Technology; National Diploma Computer Engineering; National Diploma Crime Management; and National Diploma Cooperative Economics and Management.
Others, the rector outlined, National Diploma Taxation; Higher National Diploma Library and Information Science; Higher National Diploma Forestry Technology; Higher National Diploma Crop Production Technology; Higher National Diploma Agricultural Extension and Management; and Higher National Diploma Science Laboratory Technology (Microbiology).
Gumau revealed the institution has established five additional Academic Directorates and affiliated with three notable tertiary institutions for the awards of Nine Degree and 10 Postgraduate Diploma programmes, and made efforts in changing its face and bridging the gap created by infrastructural deficit in the institution.
Some of the new students of SLT department, Khadija Ibrahim Muhammad and Halima Idris Doya, expressed their happiness and vowed that they will follow the institution’s rules and regulations to get quality education.
