About 300 women in Alkaleri Local government have successfully completed a Six Months training program focused on social and economic empowerment.

This initiative, known as the “Stronger Women, Stronger Nation” program, was implemented by Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development in partnership with Women for Women International.

During the graduation ceremony, which took place in Alkaleri town, the Executive Director of Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development, Sulaiman Dasika, emphasized the program’s objective of enhancing the well-being and quality of life for women in Alkaleri and its surrounding areas.

He highlighted that the participants underwent six months of training and were provided with learning materials, as well as receiving monthly allowances to support their participation.

Dasika further emphasized the significant impact of the program, noting that the beneficiaries have become agents of positive change in Alkaleri, with far-reaching effects across various aspects of the community.

Speaking at the event, Bukola Onyishi, the Country Director of Women for Women International, addressed the pressing issue of localized violence, including conflicts related to farmer-herder clashes, armed banditry, and activities of Boko Haram.

She stressed the need for concerted efforts to address these challenges and create a safer environment for women and girls, who are often vulnerable to dangers such as sexual assault and forced early marriage.

Lydia John Shehu, the Director General of Sustainable Development Goals and founder of Rescue Initiative for Sustainable Development, explained the reasoning behind selecting a post-conflict area for the program.

She emphasized the importance of promoting peace and mutual understanding among women and children, who are disproportionately affected by crises.

Shehu underscored the program’s focus on women, recognizing their influential role within their families and society at large.

This initiative seeks to empower women in Alkaleri and contribute to broader efforts aimed at fostering stability and security in the region.

Among the Participants, Jamila Abubakar, Hassana John and Asabe Dallami both commended RISD and WFWi for the training and promised to extend it to their family and community.
