RAMADAN: Zaria NUJ visit families of deceased members, Donates food items

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zaria Unit has donated food items to families of late journalists in Zaria.

While submitting the items, the Unit chairman,comrade Mohammed Sagir Auwal said the gesture was part of the Union’s annual commitment to help the families of its late Nembers in Zaria.
According to him, the present leadership inherited the noble initiative from the former leadership headed by Comrade Mohammed Bello Habib.

“We thanked him and his team for this wonderful initiative and support and pledge to sustain it to the end of our tenure.”

Comrade Awwal also called on other journalists and the general public to lend helping hands to the families of their fallen colleagues by visiting their houses and making donations.

He disclosed that the gesture was made possible for the Union by well to do members in the society.

“We got assistance from some business men as well as other individuals who pleadeded anonymity.”he said.

Also speaking, the Secretary General of the association, Comrade Abubakar Sadiq thanked members of the Union and those that assisted the families of their late colleagues.

He said this will definitely go a long way in cushioning the effect of some of the challenges they face, especially in this period.

He urged well to do individuals to emulate the NUJ, saying the act could help in cushioning the effect of the hardship faced by the families of the deceased.

The items donated include 25kg bags of rice, ground nut oil among others.
