Gov.Bagudu inaugurates DSC Dev course participants of Correctional Training College, Makera Birnin Kebbi

Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu on Tuesday inaugurated the the first set of participants to undergo Deputy Supritendant of Correction Development Course of the Correctional Training College, Makera, Birnin Kebbi.

Bagudu was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, Jarman Kabi.

Bagudu while congratulating the course participants, expressed delight with the development in the state.

The governor said that the college would bolster the capacity of the participants to be in tune with extant trends in the management of inmates.

Bagudu also lamented the increasing number of youths in the correctional centres across the country.

The Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum also said,” but the new system will reform the system to make the discharged inmates to be more productive and patriotic.

He noted that the college was the second in the North West, even as he commended the immediate past Compyroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Jaafar Ahmed for locating it in Birnin Kebbi.

He urged the participants to work hard in order to acquire knowledge and skills that could be imparted on prisoners to change their attitude.

The pioneer Comptroller /Commandant of the college, Hamisu Isah, said that the inauguration marked the official take off of the college.

He noted that there was a backlog of untrained staff, hence the need to set up the college.

Isah lauded Gov. Bagudu for donating the land on which the college was located and it aims to train the participants on how to properly handle inmates in line with existing global trends.

He said the 100 participants drawn from 36 states and FCT, would undergo training for 3 months with the aim of imparting knowledge on how to handle and change the attitude of inmates to become better citizens of Nigeria.

‘ Over 70 course participants are here and the participants come from all over the country.

‘ The College was set out by former Comptroller General , Ahmad Jafar with the aim of reducing the number of untrained staff ,”he averred.

According to him, the college is part of new measures adopted to improve officers of Nigeria Correctional Services to be in tune with modern trend so as to properly handle and educate in mates.

He reiterated his appreciation to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for facilitating the establishment of the college by allocating land and structures for citing the college.

In his good will message, the Deputy Comptroller, Nigeria Correctional Service, Kebbi State, Richard Yasheen urged the participants to abide by rules and regulations of the college and dedicated to their studies.

Highlights of the event include presentation of the college rules and regulations to the participants oath taking as well as hoisting of the College flag.
