FLOUR MILLERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA ORGANISES FARMER’S FIELD DAY IN BAUCHI.

Bauchi state government called on farmers to engage in massive dry season farming to make up for the losses incurred in 2021 rainy season.

The state governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad made the call in Ziddi Village of Misau local government while addressing farmers at the Green Field Day organized by Flour milling Association of Nigeria.

The governor maintained that farmers in Bauchi state experienced late start and early cessation of rainfall which resulted into poor harvest hence the need to invest in the production of crops that are adaptable to be produced in the dry season so as to breach the gap.

Also speaking, the program manager Bauchi state agricultural development program appreciate Bauchi state farmers for cooperating with the agency.

Ja’afaru Ilelah also called on the farmers to make judicious use of the knowledge gained during the green field day.

Dr. Zakari Turaki, head of cereal department Lake Chad research institute said the institute has the national mandate for the improvement of with and as such every Wheat that is being cultivated in the country has been developed and released by Lake Chad research institute.

He noted that the aim of the green field day is to desimminate technology the farmers that learned new farming techniques will show their results for others to emulate.

According to him, Lake Chad research institute has so far released thirteen different varieties of wheat which can be cultivated both under irrigated and rain-fed agriculture.

Dr Zakari Turaki therefore appealled with Bauchi state government to join hands with Flour milling Association of Nigeria, Central Bank of Nigeria and other partners in improving wheat production in the state.

In his address of welcome, National program manager flour milling Association of Nigeria wheat development program Dr. Aliyu Sama’ila said there are about five hundred and four demonstration Farms across 15 states of the country under the program.

Farmers who attended the event asked several questions on wheat production and were educated by experts.
