The Bauchi Emirate Council has called on the Federal and Bauchi state governments to as a matter of urgency constitute a powerful and independent committee to investigate the circumstances of last Friday’s brigandage in Bogoro Local Government Area of the state.

The Emir council under the able leadership of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu after its emergency meeting in Bauchi Tuesday said the committees should investigate the act that led to the stoning and cars smashing of the Emir Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu convoy along Bauchi – Bogoro on his to perform official function.

Bauchi Emir who was along with his Dass counterpart, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman were on their way for the 21st memorial anniversary of Sayawa Community freedom fighter, Late Baba Peter Gonto organized by the deceased family which was slated for last Thursday and Friday, December 30st and 31st December, 2021 respectively.

Addressing the press shortly after the emirate council meeting in Bauchi yesterday, the Galadiman Bauchi, Surveyor Ibrahim Sa’idu Jahun described the incident as barbaric, provocative and misleading, and therefore called on the state and federal governments to expedite action on the matter.

Council said, “Several attempts were made by the miscreants on the convoys where cars were smashed including the spare car of the Emir of Bauchi and official car of Emir of Dass which forced the Emirs to turn back in order to avoid loss of lives and properties.”

“The council has condemned in totality the incident as it was barbaric, provocative, misleading and therefore called on the state government to as a matter of urgency constitute a strong committee of investigation to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to book”.

“Peace and unity being a prerequisite to any meaningful Development therefore, we consider this occasion of 21st memorial of the anniversary of Baba Gonto will foster unity and cohesion among our communities.”

The emirate council lamented that “it is unfortunate at this modern era where peace is fragile in the state and indeed the nation, unpatriotic, miscreants who do not wish the state well came out to disturb the peace and tranquility we have been enjoying in the state by attacking the two emirs of Bauchi and Dass who honoured the invitation of the convener.”
