Muslim leaders in the Northern part of Nigeria and elsewhere in the country have been urged to ponder the veritable lessons of the Holy Qur’an in overcoming the ugly narratives of insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and sundry crimes wrongfully associated with Islam.
Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state made the call on Saturday at the Holy Qur’an recitation graduation reception for Abdulgaffar Abubakar Gotomo [HQ]-(Hafizeezul Qur’an-Guardian or Memorizer of the Holy Qur’an) held at Nurut-Tilawah International School, Zaria, Kaduna state.
According to him, the ambience and scholarship accompanying the memorization of the Holy Qur’an is a pointer to the subliminal tranquility of Islam which does not allow for the propagation and practice of violence.
“This is an additional lessons for us, especially in our struggles to contain the excesses of many of our wayward children. The preponderance of bandits and criminals is a testimony to the ugly trend that the nation is coping with,” he said.
He prayed for the school, students and staff, expressing hope that the Islamic and Qur’anic socialization being cultivated and inculcated in students of the school will serve as an anti-dote to the ignorance peddled as Islam by adherents of the terroristic Islamic organizations and Illl-educated Muslims in the country and globally.
The Governor expressed gratitude to Allah for the shower of blessings heralded by the graduation and gave kudos to the teachers and students of the school for their efforts.
In his remarks, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) said “this school is a thing a proud to all its students, Muslims in the country and the city of Zaria.
“Its socialization of youths to memorize the Qur’an is an indication of the spiritual and temporal blessings that such education bestows not only on the guardian of the holy book but their parents and the entire Islamic community globally,” Malami said.
Father of the graduate, who is also a bosom friend of both Malami and Tambuwal, Hon. Abubakar Usman Gotomo, who couldn’t conceal his excitement wept joyfully as he expressed happiness over his son’s meritorious feat.
“I am delighted that my son is the recipient of this exceptional honor, which is a thing of pride to my family and the Islamic community in our country.
Narrating how he made efforts to bring his child to the school, he prayed for him and expressed gratitude to Gov. Tambuwal and Malami for their friendship and unflinching loyalty from childhood till date.
Barrister Tahir Umar Tahir, proprietor of the school,
recalled the sterling leadership qualities of Tambuwal while he was the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his commitment to the uplifting of Islam in the country.
He also applauded Malami for his contribution to the dispensation of justice and development of Islam in the country.
Giving a brief history of the 25 years old school which has students from across the nation and the some countries of Africa and France, from where two female students are currently undertaking studies, he informed the August visitors that the school is gradually preparing for movement to its permanent site.
Highlights of the graduation ceremony also attended by Sokoto state Commissioner for Finance, Hon. AbdusSamad Dasuki, Sokoto state Head of Service, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed (Mni), the incoming National Organizing Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Umar Bature, the Special Adviser to Sokoto state Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Dahiru Yabo and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon.
