The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) will Partner with the Jama’atul Nasril Islam to plant million of trees to fight numerous environmental challenges that include global warming, climate change, soil erosion, water flooding among others.
This was disclosed by the Director General of the Agency Dr Ibrahim Kabir MNES,FSEPH, FIICA today when he received the audiences of the Jama’atul Nasril Islam committee on afforestation in his office.
The committee which was headed by the District Head of Gamawa Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir Dahuwa was inaugurated by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu to provide to among other things carry out a massive tree plantation across the state.
The chairman also said the Committee comprises members from all the six Emirates in the State and the purpose of their visit is to seek for collaboration and partnership in the areas of professional and technical advice, working tools as well as the Provision of seedlings in other to carry out the exercise and mandates of their Committee.
The District Head also said the JNI as the main body of Islamic affairs in the country see the importance of tree plantation ,hence the formation of the committee to go round and meet the relevant stakeholders both organisations and individual in order to come up with a strategic and sustainable action plan to ensure they carry out their assignment objectively.
Responding, the Director General welcome the delegation and on behalf of the Agency expressed delight for considering the Agency as a critical stakeholder and important organisation by the Jama’atul Nasril Islam for this important partnership and promised that the partnership will be fruitful and sustainable.
The Director General also said that BASEPA as the Agency responsible for the protection of environment which tree plantations is one of the strategy in the state, will assist the committee in the areas of Professional and the Technical advice as requested, he also assured the committee that the Agency will provide to the committee all the necessary working tools, seedlings and other important logistics.
He also emphasized the need for community involvement and ownership of the project for sustainability and prayed that the partnership will yield the desired objectives and also promised to revived the afforestation committees in all the twenty (20) local governments in the state and to also raised nursery plantations in all our communities for easy access to seedlings whenever need arises and BASEPA will provide all the necessary supports and logistics to ensure the creation of these nursery plantations.
Dr Kabir also used the occasion to inform the District Head and the committee memeber some of the transformational initiatives he introduced that change the narratives in the affairs of the Agency which include manpower development and capacity building for effective service delivery, provision and repairs of the Agency’s trucks and Machineries, Provision of office accommodation and office equipments, establishment of the first Environmental Science laboratory, collaboration and partnership and above transparency and judicious utilisation of the Agency’s funds.
All other speakers during the meeting expressed their readiness to work tirelessly to ensure the success of the committee’s exercises and urged the benefitting communities will owned the projects for sustainability.
The Director General took the committee round the Agency complex to see the level of transformational achievements under his leadership.
