SANITATION: BASEPA Launches This Year’s General Desilting Exercise in Bauchi, Azare and Misau.

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) has today launched the year 2021 general drainages desilting exercise in Bauchi, Azare and Misau respectively.

Declaring the exercise open at the Agency’s Headquarters, the Director General of the Agency Dr Ibrahim Kabir MNES, FSEPH, FIICA thanks his Excellency Governor Bala Muhammed Con (Kauran Bauchi) for the release of funds to conduct the exercise and promised to utilize the resources judiciously. He also said the exercise is one of the Agency’s mandates to desilt drainages twice a year to allow free flow of water in the metropolis and other Urban towns.

The Director General also said the exercise is one of the predisaster management strategies carried out to avoid flooding as forcasted by the Nigerian Metrologican Agency (NIMET) that Bauchi State is among the flood prone states in the country.

Dr Kabir also said, this year’s model of the exercise which is tagged “My Premises My Dranages” was introduced to ensure that all residents in the metropolis and the Urban towns are responsible for desilting drainages in front of their Houses, Business premises and shops and the Agency will provide tools and Machineries to evacuate the garbages.

The Agency is also responsible for desilting drainages in “No Man’s Land” that include drainages in front of public buildings like Hospitals, Schools, government offices among others.

To ensure success of the exercise, the Agency have procured tools (Chobels, Rakes, Dig, and Regalia) for the conduct of the exercise which will cover not only drainages but also Cross-Culverts along the major roads across the three Urban towns

The Director General also thanks the relevant organizations that are always available to support the Agency whenever need arises especially the Bauchi State Urban planning and Development, Community leaders, Security outfits, Uniform Voluntary organizations as well as Tipper Unions.

The exercise was carried out in Bauchi along Ajiya Adamu road GG Quarters, Fadaman Mada street and Bank road, Isah Mai shayi Junction, Township roundabout and Emir’s drive in Misau and Sule Katagum road, Shira road/old Kano road, Sardauna road and this will continue to cover all the remaining major roads and streets in the three Urban centers.

The current BASEPA leadership is determined to deliver its mandates of keeping the state clean through very many initiatives.
