ICRC Trains Journalists on Humanitarian Reporting.

The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) has trained practicing Journalists from ten states of the federation on Humanitarian Reporting.

Our correspondent Firdausi Ibrahim Bakondi, reports that
the two-day training held in jos, the capital of Plateau state, drew participants the states of Nasarawa, Kano, Bauchi, Benue, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, Kaduna, plateau and Zamfara.

Speaking, the ICRC Communication Coordinator, Abuja Delegation, Mr. Robin Waudo, said the training was aimed at equipping Journalists with the necessary knowledge of approaching humanitarian reporting.

Waudo added that the engagement would enable the Media Organisations and their representatives share their experiences on humanitarian activity with those who did not get the opportunity to attend.

On his part, a lecturer with Mass Communication Department, Bayero University Kano, Dr. Bala Muhammad, who was a facilitator at the training, said Journalists are a very important pillar that would help in addressing the increasing insecurity challenges in the country.

Dr. Bala Muhammad, appealed to the Journalists to understand the background and nature of every conflict before reporting it to the larger society.

Muhammad suggested for the government to ensure proper utilization of forests as they are the hideouts for bandits and other insurgents groups, ban the importation of motorcycles and hard drugs as the immediate measures to tackle security challenges in the country.

The lecturer, urged the government to do the needful towards implementing suggestions, which were research products, to help tackle security challenges in the country.

Some participants interviewed, said the training will help them in writing humanitarian reports and promised to step down the knowledge to their colleagues.
