EMPOWERMENT: Bauchi Speaker commends ACTIONAID for improving well-being of Women

Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman has commended ACTIONAID Nigeria and its partner Fahimta Women and Youth Development Intiative for initiating the Local Rights Programme to improve the socioeconomic status of women in Bauchi State.

He made the remarks during the Learning and Closing Out Meeting organized by ACTIONAID and Fahimta Women Intiative at Command Guest House, Bauchi, today.

The Speaker who was represented by his Chief of Staff Alhaji Musa Bako Ningi said that the impact of the initiatives of the two NGOs are felt in all parts of the State especially the two Local Governments that benefited from the Local Rights Programme.

Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman also urged ACTIONAID to come up with another initiative that will replace the LRP which is rounded up so that women, persons with disabilities and youth will continue to feel the impact of the organization.

He restate the commitment of the 9th Assembly of Bauchi State to continue providing formidable ground for smooth operations of donor agencies and legislative support to ACTIONAID and Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative to improve the well-being of women and children and youth.

Also speaking, the Wife of the Speaker Hajiya Rashida Abubakar Suleiman prayed to Almighty Allah to bless the two organizations for contributing to the well-being of women in the State.

She explained that herself and the Speaker have for many years been helping and empowering women so that they will achieve their full potentials.

Hajiya Rashida narrated how she founded SABEERASH Foundation with the sole aim of empowering women through interventions on healthcare, skills acquisition, education and other empowerment programmes.

In her remarks, the Director of Programmes ACTIONAID Nigeria Suwaiba Yakubu Jibrin said that the Local Rights Programme was initiated for women empowerment and integration into leadership structures through right consciousness , solidarity and campaign.

According to her, the programme focused on improving livelihood, advocating for educational access for the girlchild and improved health structures in 10 communities of Kirfi and Bogoro Local Governments.

The Director highlights that the Programme has reached 5000 women, 1800 children, 300 persons with disabilities and 100 young persons across the benefiting communities.

She commended the Speaker for being champion of women and urged him to encourage his colleagues to key into intiatives of the Organizations.
