CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW: Bauchi gov advocates more responsibilities for traditional rulers.

Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Kauran Bauchi today attended the second zonal public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution organized by the sub committee of the House of Representatives.

Declaring the hearing open at Hazibal Hotel Bauchi, Governor Bala welcomed stakeholders and delegates to what he described as key to societal development.

He said Nigeria needs a constitution that captures interest of it’s citizens and urged the federal lawmakers to come up with an acceptable document for the betterment of Nigerians.

The Governor appreciated the participatory approach introduced by the members of the National Assembly in conducting the hearing.

He once declared his support for the establishment of state police, federal structure, state and local governments creation, constitutional responsibility for traditional rulers among others.

Governor Bala assured that his administration will support the committee for the success of its assignment and for the benefit of Government and people of Bauchi State.

In their seperate remarks, Speakers of Bauchi and Borno State Houses of Assembly promised to support the ongoing constitutional review for the amendment of the current constitution.

Earlier speaking, leader of the delegation, Honorable Aminu Sulaiman said the outcome of the review process will consolidate on the efforts of the National Assembly in the review of the current constitution.

Aminu Sulaiman said that the committee will do justice to the submission presented by the participants by coming up with a fair recommendation.
