Kebbi Governor cautious Social Media users against spread of fake News

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has cautioned communicators on social media platform to strictly adhere to its rules and ethics and avoid fake news or libelous materials.

The Governor gave the warning while declaring open a one day interactive session on new media ethics and practice this Wednesday at the Presidential Lodge Birnin Kebbi.

He told the new media users to be positive in reporting and facilitate the development of the country.

Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu warned them to shun anything that could undermine the corporate existence of the nation as well as protect the privacy of individuals.

The governor was appreciative about the effort of the state ministry of information and culture for introducing such important sensitization and enlightenment of social media practitioners in the state.

He thank resource persons Professor Nura Ibrahim of Bayero University Kano and Veteran Journalist, Abdullahi El-Kubere for the rich presentation of their well-researched papers which he described as excellence.

In an address, the Commissioner for Information and Culture Barrister Rakiya Tanko Ayuba-Haruna who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Alhaji Garba Hamisu Zuru commended Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for sponsoring series of workshops, seminars, sensitizations, enlighten and training programmes for cadres of civil servants including social media operators.

The commissioner acknowledged the liberty and freedom accorded to media practitioners by the governor to operate optimally in Kebbi state.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and Coordinator of Media Aliyu Bandado appraised the responsibility of social media communicators to practice according to norms and regulations.

A paper on social media as a tool for change and development “Social Media Strategies and tools was presented by Professor Nura Ibrahim from Bayero University Kano while a veteran journalist Abdullahi El-Kurebe presented two papers on techniques writing on social media and ethics of social media practice.

The workshop drew participants from state level as well as the twenty one local government areas of the state.
