Curbing the menace of Examination malpractice in Nigeria

In Nigeria, the last two decades have witnessed an alarming rate of increase in incidents of examination misconduct especially at secondary school level. Evidences abound of increasing incidents of examination malpractice by students, teachers and parents. Examination malpractice has become so widespread that there is virtually no examination anywhere at all levels and even outside the formal school system that there is no one form of sharp practice or the other.

Every examination season witnesses the emergence of new and ingenious ways of cheating. This write up attempt to explore the problem of examination malpractice in secondary schools in Nigeria, what sustains it, the consequences of examination malpractice and the ways through which examination malpractice could be curbed in order to give credibility to the examination process in the country.

Parents or Guardians been the first teachers to their children should train them discipline and how to seek knowledge religiously. They should alway showcase the importance of acquiring knowledge in a proper way and obtaining a decent and legal certificates.

School Managements both public and private have a critical role to play in the crusade through adopting all measures that would help the students to be well and sound knowledge and make sure they have covered the designed curriculum before the date of the exam.

Examination bodies too are the recognized and identified strong stakeholders recommended to introduce new restrictions before, during and after Exam .They should provide a trusted and transparent external Invigilators with attractive Motivation to enable them perform their duties without fear or fevour .

In the final note, it is hoped that collective efforts would be made towards producing well and sound students for the brighter future of the country.
