Yobe State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has suspended its member, Uche Friday Uche who is accused of sexually molesting a 5-year old girl, Aisha in Damaturu.

According to a statement from the council’s chairman, Rajab Mohammed, the indefinite suspension is to allow the law take its own course against the suspect and to also serve as deterrent to any member of the Union who intends to indulge into such a despicable act.

The statement further added that it will amount to counterproductive if NUJ which is known to be at the forefront in the fight against Gender Based Violence will turn back and shield its member from facing the full wrath of the law.

Uche Friday Uche who is the Yobe State correspondent for Peoples’ Daily Newspaper has been remanded in Potiskum correctional facility after failing to fulfill his bail conditions.

He is standing trial at Injiwaji Magistrates Court for allegedly molesting a 5-year old daughter of a military officer in Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital.
