The management of Gombe State University has been urged to cooperate with the state government toward efficient management of the institution.

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, made the call during the Inauguration of Governing Council of Gombe State University held at Government House Gombe.

The Governor charged the Governing Council of the State University to ensure that the institution adhere to the principles of accountability and compliance with the best practices in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He equally charged members of the Governing Council to provide policy direction and desired leadership in order to move the institution to greater heights.

According to him, for any university to achieve its mission, the governing council has a big role to play in maintaining its functions as enshrined in the law establishing that institution.

The governor further tasked the Council to ensure that proper accounts of the University are kept and audited annually by auditors appointed by the State Auditor-General and an annual report published by the University together with certified copies of the audited account.

He therefore urged the governing council to cooperate with the state government and the management of the University as well as external bodies and local community for the purpose of fairness, equity and Justice.

The Governor appealed to the management, staff and students of the institutions and the general public to give the members of the newly inaugurated Council support and cooperation in order to succeed in their new responsibilities.

Speaking on behalf of the members the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Gombe State University, Senator Joshua Lidani thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed on them, assuring that the trust would not be misplaced.

He assured the Governor that the Council would continue to identify with his administration all through.
