Gombe Government partners Mercy Corp to improve lives of the poor and vulnerable

In an efforts to improve on the lives of it’s citizens especially the vulnerable in the society, Gombe State Government is partnering with Mercy Corps to give to the less previledge in the society.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya was speaking through the Secretary to the State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi at the signing of MOU between State Government and Mercy Corps a none Governmental Organization at Government House.

He said MOU, which is targeted at improving the lives of Women and Youths in the State will go a long way in solving the problems faced by these sets of people adding that the partnership will help the State Government drive at reducing poverty in the State.

“I am happy most of the issue raised fucuse on Women and Youths because Government has Special interest in these categories of people”

the SSG further added “if you can take woman and Youth, leave the rest of the issues, for as long as you remove them from claws of poverty you have solved about 60-70 percent of the problems”

He assured Mercy Corps of the state Government Commitment of improving the lives of the citezenry through programs and Projects and commended Mercy Corps for it humanitarian services.

Earlier speaking, the representative of Mercy Corps Dr. Yusuf Kukawa remarked that they were concerned about how to improve the lives of the citizenry through it’s rural resilience activity fucusing on market system Strengthening provision of grants and stimulates development in the market in oder to identify market actors, identify constraints and design interventions.

He said” We are tergetting 90,000 Participants at moment in Gombe and other state’s within the sub region and have selected 7 Value chains some of which are, rice, maize Ground nut value chain in addition to Small ruminants mainly for women as well as SMEs and ICT for the Youth.

In a remark the Special Adviser Budget and Development Partner Coordination Dr. Isiyaku Mohammed said the signing of the MOU is in fulfilment of it’s promise when they visited the state in April adding that Mercy Corps is in a tripatite arrangements with others such as save the Children and IFDC.
