Farmers under the auspices of Zazzau United Farmers Association
have appreciated Agro-processing Productivity Enhancement and Livelyhood Support (APPEAL) project for support to enhance farming activities to boost food Security.
The Farmers Group formed by 6 clusters in the Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna state on Friday expressed optimism that the program would yield positive results, especially with the current challenges of food security in the country.
Some of the farmers interviewed at a one day ‘Brown Field Day for Maize Value Chain’ organized by the Project held at Yaskwake village in the area, thanked the group for the immense support to them with Farm input such as improved seed of maize, Fertilizer and Pesticides among other inputs.
Speaking at the occasion, a farmer from Boys cluster, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Shika said the support by the Group was unquantifiable.
He pointed out that with the support they (farmers) had seen positive imfact in such a way they double yield of their output.
Alhaji Shika sites example that before the support they harvest between 20 and 25 bags of maize in a hectre of land but they could boast of harvesting between 35 and 4o bags of Maize in a hectre of land
Speaking earlier, the state Coordinator of the project, Dr Yahaya Aminu commended the farmers for judicious use of the inputs which pave way to record Bamber harvest
The Coordinator represented by Productivity enhancement Specialist, Dr Adamu Yakubu said that his project was proud of the farmers for receprocating the gesture accorded them by his project
Dr Aminu pointed out further that the idea of supporting the farmers was to improve their (farmers) business investment in the value chain (maize) for commercial purposes.
