WASH stakeholders in Katsina State advocates for more funding in the sector

Stakeholders in Water, Sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities in Katsina State have called on the state government to continue funding the sector for effective service delivery.

This would go along way in ensuring sustainability of the gains recorded in the implementation of the WASH project.

This is was part of a five point communique issues at the end of a two day workshop to mark the end of implementation of the Sanitation, hygiene and water in Nigeria (SHAWN)project held at Liyafa Palace Hotel, Katsina.

 

The stakeholders also emphasized the dire need for continued release of funds to all the thirty four LGAs to ensure delivery of the entire state to Open Defecation Free (ODF) status but the year 2025.

Similarly, the stakeholders recommended for engagement of policy makers, traditional and religious leaders and all other relevant stakeholders as a holistic approach towards achievement of desired objectives.
While calling for review, dissemination and application of the state ODF road map, the communique also sought for sustenance of quarterly review meeting to enable for appraisal of the project so as to discuss the gains, challenges and the way forward for attainment of maximum benefit of the WASH project.

The communique was signed by major stakeholders holders including Katsina State RUWASSA where the Assistant Director Water Supply and Sanitation Geologist Alhaji Aminu Tukur Ingawa signed on behalf of the Executive Director Engineer Aminu Dayyabu Safana, while Mrs Stella I. Okafor Terver signed for the Kano field office of UNICEF.

Other signatories to the communique include Mrs. Obiano Chinyere for the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja. Alhaji Yusuf Bello Saulawa from SGS office, Alhaji Babangida Shehu from SPHCDA Katsina as well as Alhaji Lawal Inusa Charanchi representing NGOs.
