For years, dozens of pregnant women from villages around Lame and Gerjaule lost their lives while struggling to access medical care due to poor roads and lack of transportation.
The situation left many families devastated and created fear among expectant mothers in the area.
A resident of Gerjaule, Malam Sama’ila Adamu, revealed this when he spoke to journalists on a media tour of projects executed by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
He said life had been miserable for the people, as emergencies often turned tragic because health facilities were unreachable.
Malam Sama’ila explained that the construction of the 40.2-kilometre Gerjaule–Lame rural road by the present administration has brought a new lease of life to the people.
According to him, the road has drastically reduced maternal deaths and eased access to hospitals for residents of surrounding villages.
The rural road, which links several farming communities, has also boosted economic activities as farmers can now transport their goods to markets with ease. He noted that the project has improved both healthcare delivery and the livelihood of the people.
The people of Gerjaule and Lame expressed deep appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed, describing the intervention as timely and life-saving.
They called for more rural development projects to further transform lives and sustain the hope now rekindled in the region.
