The Governing Council, Federal University of Oye Ekiti, FUOYE has appointed the incumbent Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor Olubunmi Shittu as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university for a period of six months.

FUOYE’s Registrar and Secretary of the Council, Mr Mufutau Ibrahim made this known in a statement after the council’s seventh Emergency meeting held online.

At the meeting the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina sought to proceed on his accumulated annual leave and the council immediately approved his request.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the council emergency meeting was summoned after the Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa registered his sour displeasure on the way the FUOYE’s Governing Council Chairman, Senator Ndoma Egba and other members handled alleged sexual harassment levelled against the Vice Chancellor Professor Abayomi Fasina.

According to the report, the Minister was very angry by the recommendations of the Governing Council’s Committee which allegedly ignored the sexual harassment allegation and recommended that a senior officer of the university Mrs Folasade Adebayo who accused the vice chancellor should apologize to him.

An official at the meeting who preferred anonymity, claimed that Professor Fasina whose tenure is due to end in August pleaded with the council to allow him to proceed on his annual leave instead of a direct suspension.
